For Second-Generation Construction Owners

Transform Your Construction Company

Create a buyer-ready, high-value asset

The best way to run a business is to run it as an investor.

I help second-generation construction owners grow the value of their companies, so they're great investments for them today, and attractive, buyer-ready assets if they ever choose to sell.

The Fit

Built for owners serious
about enterprise value

Who this is for

  • 2nd-gen owners or long-time leaders.
  • Revenue is roughly $10M-$1B and you're serious about building enterprise value.
  • You want your company to be worth more to you today, and more to the right buyer tomorrow.
  • You'd like the option to sell, keep, or pass the company on. Your call.

The wrong fit

  • You ignore the financials and just focus on "getting more work."
  • You refuse to build a management layer beneath you.
  • You want a valuation number without a strategic plan to justify it.

What's At Stake

A buyer is already
pricing your company

Is your business sale-ready?

Find out exactly how a buyer sees your company today. Get your Readiness Score in 5 minutes and see where you are strong and where you are at risk.

Success shouldn't feel like a trap

Long hours, more hires, and every problem you solve creates two more. Vacations become remote offices. The company gets bigger and your life gets smaller. That's not a work-ethic problem. It's a missing operating system.

Build a business that buyers want

A business that relies on you is worthless to them. We help you build a machine that runs itself, so you have the freedom to sell for a premium, or keep the cash flow forever. Making yourself unnecessary is the work. The freedom is the result.

How the Value Snapshot Works

We keep it simple

1

Value Drivers Checklist

You complete the Construction Value Drivers Checklist so we can see your company more like a buyer or investor would, not just a banker looking at last year's numbers.

2

30-45 Minute Zoom Meeting

On the call, we walk through your key value drivers across People, Strategy, Execution, and Cash. We'll look at both your current value and your capacity to grow value.

3

Clear Next Moves

You leave with 3-5 priority moves to increase enterprise value, whether you ever sell or not. If it's a fit, I'll also show you what working together looks like. If not, you still leave with a better plan.

The initial Value Snapshot Call is free. It's designed to give you clarity and let both of us decide if working together makes sense.

The Journey

Four stages. One discipline.

Foundations (get the cash right) → Growth engine (install the operating system) → Valuable company (run it like an investor) → Options (sell, keep, or pass it on. Your call.) Every stage makes the company better to run today. The options are the byproduct.

About Rob Williams

Rob Williams, Scaling Up Construction

I've spent 40+ years in construction, not just advising but owning and operating companies:

  • Wholesale and distribution
  • Commercial and residential construction
  • Land development and property management
  • Even international distribution

I partner with investment bankers to help owners prepare their companies so they're truly buyer-ready. Think of it this way:

The investment banker is your real estate agent. They run the sale process. I'm the home stager and rebuild crew. We make the business so valuable and clean that the right buyers compete for it.
-

You do not have to sell. The best outcome is often a company that's worth more to you and option-ready if life or markets change.

-

We maximize value for you as the current owner-investor, not just for a financial buyer.

-

We're careful about how we talk about "exit" so your team doesn't panic. Internally, this is about building a stronger, more independent, more valuable company.

Questions Owners Ask

Straight answers

Do I have to be ready to sell to work with you?

No. Most of my best clients aren't ready to sell yet. We focus on building a company that's investor-ready so you have options: sell, keep, or pass it on. If you never sell, you still win, because the business runs better and is worth more to you.

Will my employees think I'm trying to sell the business?

We're careful about how we frame this. Internally, this is about strengthening the business and leadership, not putting up a "for sale" sign. Many owners who start "getting ready" end up enjoying the business more and delaying a sale.

Are you an investment banker?

No. I'm not the person selling your business. I'm the person who helps you fix, stage, and position the business so your banker (or strategic buyer) has something great to work with. I sit on your side of the table.

What does the initial Value Snapshot cost?

The initial Value Snapshot Call is free. It's designed to give you clarity and let both of us decide if working together makes sense.
